Seniors and Savers
61SENIOR & SAVERS
When it comes to the necessities and as well as the luxuries for our aging loved ones, we often search for things that are good quality and reasonably priced as well. As we get older our abilities change and we require a little bit of assistance in many different ways. Our elderly family members depend on retirement funds, pensions, and sometimes other family members, their income is limited so it always feels great to save them or yourself a little bit of change when it comes to their wants and needs. And why not allow them the luxuries that they as senior citizens are entitled to? I spent some time finding the little things that we, most of the time, never realize are there and in the long run will save us a nice chunk of change that can be used for other things we want!
FOOD
Just like any of us, seniors like to eat out, but it's nice to know that there are plenty of food places, fast food, as well as sit down restaurants that offer discounts to our life veterans! Doing some research, fast food restaurants such as McDonalds, Jack In The Box, Wendy's, Long John Silvers, Carls Jr., Arby's, and many more offer senior discounts up to 20%. It's very convenient for seniors to go out to fast food restaurants and get a quick meal instead of putting a strain upon themselves at home. So it's nice that they can enjoy dining out and saving a little more than then had thought they would initially. And these discounts do not only stand correct in fast food restaurants, dining facilities such as IHop, Carrows, Sizzler, Marie Callanders, Applebee's, Boston Market, Denny's, and Coco's not only offer a special menu geared toward good health for seniors, they even offer a discount on their meal as well! Sometimes up to 20% too! I was surprised to learn that there were so many places that offer such deals. But why didn't we already know about this? I learned while asking around at the restaurants if they offer these deals that sometimes the cashiers forget about the senior discount, its always good to ask! Before you pay, ask if they offer a senior discount, it may lower for bill more than you think.
CLOTHES & BEAUTY PRODUCTS
What does anyone like more than shopping? Having more money to shop with! I was surprised to learn that department stores and beauty product vendors have discount days for seniors and some have discounts everyday! Places we usually go to buy makeup, skin and hair care products like Avon, Sally's, Rite Aid, CVS and Target have discounts available for seniors. Clothing stores like Ross has 10% off on Tuesdays for seniors, Banana Republic offers a discount on their clothing as well, New York & Co., Bebe, Stein Mart, Khol's, and Fossil also offer discount offers and days for seniors, days of the week may vary so its best to contact the retail stores closest to you to find out their discount days. I even found that thrift stores offer discounts, The Salvation Army gives up to a 50% discount to seniors on their senior discount days. I also seen that local outlets usually hold Tuesdays as their senior discount days, so if you have an outlet in your area try getting in contact with one of the stores and ask if they have any senior discount days, it could save you a ton of money! But thats not all, doing a little more digging, I was able to find online shopping places such as seniorstore.com that gives seniors a discount for shopping when they enter SNRDISCOUNTS during checkout. Its always nice to know there are businesses that honor our elderly.
ENTERTAINMENT
Yes, theres more! What about when you wanna get out of the house? The local movie theaters usually offer senior discounts on a daily. Their admission is usually around a dollar cheeper. I found that my local zoo offers a senior discount, you can check if there is a zoo in your area and take the grandkids out for a day of adventure. Theme parks also offer senior discounts, local theaters, and museums as well. All it takes is a phone call to these local places to see what they offer to seniors and when. There are also discounts on airfare, cruise traveling, lodging, and car rentals available for seniors for whenever they feel like traveling and seeing the world. Its possible! Saving money is possible. Getting great products for less is possible. You just have to ask. Im not finished either!
INSURANCE, MEDICATION, and NECESSITIES
Although shopping, eating and getting out for nightlife and thrills is fun, there are still the important things that need to be dealt with. These things being priority mean the most when it comes to saving money. Why? Because we know they are something we have to pay for whether we like it or not. So what can we do?? I know, find money savers, tips to help us save for the luxuries that we want. Insurance can be expensive, but did you know that most auto insurance companies such as Mercury, Geico, AAA, Progressive, and All State offer discounts on auto insurance, and those who offer other types of insurance may have special rates for those insurances as well. As for prescriptions, you can get discounts ordering your prescriptions online at planprescriber.com or Labels-4-Meds offers 15% off the list price of each order. There are a lot of manufacturers that offer discounts on senior products, such as The Scooter Store, you get a $100 discount when you order a Go-Go scooter and submit a discount form. Keystone Mobility offers a 15% discount for online purchases. It is very important for seniors to have a communication device as well for when they're out taking advantage of their savings. They can get a senior friendly cell phone with low cost calling plans with Just5. There are even discounts on calling plans with local carriers, T-Mobile offers a senior discount, and At&T offers a seniors only calling plan for 200 anytime minutes plus 500 nights and weekends for emergencies for $29.99 a month. And both of those Sim cards will work inside a Just5 Easyphone.
The bottom line is there are plenty of ways to save money for seniors and the everyday things that they need. The easiest and best thing to do is simply ask.
